Recognized as the greatest scribe of Yemenite Judaism and patriarch of a dynasty of copyists from Sana'a active from the second half of the 15th c. Approximately 40% of dated Yemenite manuscripts preserved between 1461 and 1540 came from the Benayah workshop. In 1469–1470 he copied a complete codex of the Pentateuch (Genesis to Deuteronomy) with masora.
