Karl Albert Agathon Benary est un philologue allemand né à Cassel en 1807 et mort en 1860, frère de Franz Ferdinand Benary. Formé à Göttingen et à Halle, où il étudie la philologie classique (1824-27), il enseigne dans un gymnase de Berlin puis devient, de 1833 jusqu'à sa mort, professeur au Cölnische Realgymnasium de Berlin tout en donnant des cours à l'université; il fut l'un des premiers linguistes à appliquer les méthodes de la grammaire comparée au latin et au grec.
