Juriste né à Hambourg en 1843, mort dans cette ville le 19 mars 1888. Formé au Johanneum et au gymnase de sa ville natale, il étudie le droit aux universités de Berlin, Heidelberg et Göttingen, puis exerce comme avocat à Hambourg aux côtés du Dr Banks à partir de 1864, dont il reprend la direction du cabinet à sa mort. Élu en 1887 député à la Bürgerschaft de Hambourg, il en resta membre jusqu'à sa mort, tout en prenant part à plusieurs institutions caritatives juives.
