Rabbin et poète né à Tunis le 18 Ab 1773, mort à Londres en 1853, à la carrière aussi curieuse qu'itinérante. D'abord rabbin à Tunis et trésorier du bey, pressé par ses créanciers, il gagne Jérusalem, puis parcourt l'Europe à partir de 1817 pour y recueillir des dons, recevant notamment mille francs du roi Victor-Emmanuel Ier à Turin ; en 1827, il se porte candidat au rabbinat de la synagogue portugaise d'Amsterdam. Rabbin à Nice quelques années, il est de 1840 à 1853 attaché à la yechiva de la congrégation espagnole et portugaise de Bevis Marks, à Londres.
