Hakham et hazan karaïte né à Odessa vers 1820. Bien instruit par son père, excellent hébraïsant, il se consacre à l'enseignement de ses coreligionnaires et fonde de nombreuses écoles à Odessa et en Crimée. Il publie en russe, à Odessa en 1862, un ouvrage sur Tchoufout-Kalé, principal foyer du karaïsme en Crimée, où il s'efforce de démontrer la grande ancienneté de la secte karaïte, faisant remonter l'installation des Karaïtes en Crimée jusqu'à l'époque de Cambyse.
