Pédagogue autrichien né le 19 février 1758 à Neubydžov, en Bohême, mort le 8 novembre 1838 à Prague. Formé au Talmud puis, fait rare, à l'allemand et au latin, il entre à la yechiva de Prague avant de commencer, en Hongrie, une carrière d'enseignant, que l'envie d'étudier le mène à poursuivre à Vienne. Enseignant à l'école juive de Prague à partir de 1811, il réforme les méthodes d'instruction et devient un défenseur avancé de la réforme religieuse pour son époque. Il est l'auteur de nombreux manuels pédagogiques, dont « Toledot Yisrael », une histoire biblique parue à Prague en 1796.
