Écrivain médical autrichien né à Brünn, en Moravie, le 24 avril 1859. Formé dans les écoles secondaires de sa ville natale puis à l'université de Vienne, où il est diplômé en 1885, il exerce plusieurs années comme médecin à l'Allgemeines Krankenhaus, se spécialisant en neuropathie. Ses recherches ont été publiées dans diverses revues médicales viennoises ainsi qu'à Londres et à New York, et il dirige la « Wiener Medicinische Presse ».
