Architecte né à Londres en 1794, mort à Ely en 1845. Fils de George Basevi, dont la sœur Maria avait épousé Isaac Disraeli, il fut l'élève de Sir John Soane, voyagea en Italie et en Grèce en 1816 et revint en Angleterre en 1819. Nommé en 1821 arpenteur de la Guardian Assurance Company, il réalisa son œuvre la plus connue, le Fitzwilliam Museum de Cambridge, dans le style classique en 1837, avant de mourir accidentellement en tombant du clocher de la cathédrale d'Ely.
