Médecin et écrivain médical italien né à Pise en 1799, mort à Florence le 18 septembre 1869. Formé à l'école secondaire puis à l'université de sa ville natale, il obtient son diplôme en 1817 et publie son premier ouvrage, « Discorso », en 1823, suivi l'année suivante de « L'Esposizione della Medicina Fisiologica di Broussais ». En 1825, le grand-duc de Toscane le nomme secrétaire de la communauté juive de Livourne.
