Écrivain et homme politique autrichien né à Prague, en Bohême, en 1813. Après avoir enseigné à l'école primaire progressiste de Presbourg, il rejoint Vienne lors des troubles de la révolution de 1848 et y fonde le « Reichstagblatt », qu'il poursuit à Kremsier jusqu'à la dissolution de l'Assemblée constituante en 1849. De retour à Vienne en 1855, il dirige l'« Oesterreichische Zeitung », puis se consacre au journalisme économique jusqu'en 1875, avant de représenter la « Neue Freie Presse » à Paris, où il défend la politique républicaine jusqu'à sa retraite en 1883.
