Avocat et exégète biblique italien, né à Gradisca, près de Trieste, en Autriche, en 1828. Après des études de droit à l'université de Padoue, il s'établit comme avocat à Trieste, où il mène avec succès plusieurs procès criminels. Hébraïsant et archéologue reconnu, il publie notamment une traduction annotée des Lamentations, « I Treni di Geremia » (Trieste, 1867), et « Un Errore di Trenta Secoli » (Trieste, 1868). Il fut secrétaire de la communauté juive de Trieste.
