Philosophe, talmudiste et exégète biblique italien de la fin du XVIe siècle, issu de l'ancienne famille noble espagnole des Baruch, dite « Bet Ya'aqob ». Il est membre du rabbinat de Venise en 1598-99, où il répond à de nombreuses questions légales, puis se trouve à Constantinople en 1602, en relation avec les savants de la ville. Auteur prolifique en matière de Halakha, il laisse surtout un double commentaire de l'Ecclésiaste, mêlant exégèse rabbinique et discussion philosophique sur la création, l'immortalité de l'âme et le libre arbitre.
