Talmudiste et poète liturgique (payyetan) prolifique, actif en Allemagne au début du XIIIe siècle, il meurt à Mayence le 25 avril 1221. Élève de Moïse b. Salomon ha-Cohen de Mayence et d'Éliézer b. Samuel de Metz, il fut l'un des rabbins allemands les plus éminents de son temps et participa en 1220 au synode rabbinique de Mayence. Ses poèmes pénitentiels et ses complaintes furent intégrés aux rituels allemand et polonais.
