Dramaturge et acteur, né en 1800 et mort à Montréal le 18 mars 1856, formé d'abord à la musique avant de se tourner vers le théâtre, il connut un succès à Drury Lane en 1833 dans « The Schoolfellows » de Douglas Jerrold, puis composa en 1837 « Monsieur Jacques », pièce musicale qui triompha au St James's Theater et où il excella lui-même dans le rôle-titre de personnage français. Critique musical du « Morning Post » et de l'« Era » pendant environ sept ans, il partit en septembre 1854 pour l'Amérique après des représentations d'adieu à l'Adelphi Theater, mais sa tournée échoua en raison de la maladie qui devait l'emporter.
