Juif converti, professeur d'hébreu et bibliothécaire du Vatican, né à Safed le 28 octobre 1588 et mort le 26 mai 1668, il portait le nom juif de Juda Jona ben Isaac ; après avoir étudié le Talmud et voyagé comme rabbin en Italie et en Pologne, puis servi comme dayyan à Hambourg, il retourna en Pologne en 1625 et se convertit au christianisme à Varsovie. Chassé de Pologne, il devint professeur d'hébreu à l'université de Pise puis au Collège des néophytes de Rome, avant de rejoindre la bibliothèque vaticane, où il traduisit le Nouveau Testament en hébreu sous le titre « Berit Ḥadashah ».
