Autrice et journaliste anglaise, née à Londres et formée à l'University College, où elle obtint des bourses d'hébreu et d'allemand, elle se consacra à l'hygiène, notamment infantile, donnant plusieurs années des conférences pour la National Health Society et fondant le magazine mensuel « Baby, the Mother's Magazine », suivi de « Womanhood ». Elle publia une importante série d'ouvrages, depuis une « Hebrew Grammar with Exercises » écrite avec son frère en 1881 jusqu'à « Children's Ailments » en 1898, en passant par « The Science of Dress in Theory and Practice » (1885) et « Personal Hygiene » (1894).
