Écrivain hassidique polonais de la fin du dix-huitième siècle, gendre d'Alexandre, qui fut pendant plusieurs années le secrétaire du Besht, il tenait de son beau-père des informations précieuses sur les origines du hassidisme. Son fils Juda Löb publia après sa mort, en 1815, le « Shibḥei ha-Besht » (Louanges du Ba'al Shem Tov), recueil de légendes hassidiques qui demeure presque l'unique source authentique sur ces origines ; l'ouvrage parut la même année en deux versions, celle de Kopys et celle de Berditchev, cette dernière omettant plusieurs légendes jugées trop extraordinaires.
