Interprète de l'armée française lors de la campagne d'Algérie contre Abd-el-Kader, il meurt en 1846. Plusieurs fois blessé dans les expéditions de l'Oran, où il capture l'un des lieutenants d'Abd-el-Kader, il se signale par sa bravoure à la bataille contre Bou-Maza en tuant cinq Arabes à un moment critique du combat, avant de succomber l'année suivante aux blessures qu'il y avait reçues.
