Chef de l'académie de Bagdad avant d'en être écarté par un rival, il vécut au treizième siècle et fut un contemporain d'Al-Ḥarizi, qui railla durement sa poésie. Il ne subsiste de lui qu'un seul poème, un « poème-ceinture » (muwashshaḥ) sur l'amitié, rigoureusement métré et rimé, où son nom apparaît en acrostiche — une pièce jugée d'un grand mérite tant par la forme que par le fond.
