Fils de Rabbi Mordekhai de Tchernobyl, il s'établit à Trisk (Turiysk) après son mariage et y devient maggid, fondant la dynastie hassidique de Trisk, branche de Tchernobyl. En 1887, deux ans avant sa mort, il consent à imprimer son livre Magen Avraham, recueil de ses discours sur la Torah, vite tenu pour un ouvrage fondamental de la cour Trisk-Tchernobyl.
