Son of Rabbi Mordekhai of Chernobyl, he settled in Trisk (Turiysk) after his marriage and became maggid there, founding the Hasidic dynasty of Trisk, a branch of Chernobyl. In 1887, two years before his death, he agreed to print his book Magen Avraham, a collection of his discourses on the Torah, which was soon regarded as a foundational work of the Trisk-Chernobyl court.
