Écrivain allemand, né à Francfort-sur-l'Oder en 1691, mort à Eschberge le 13 mai 1782. Selon une biographie imprimée anonymement de son vivant et sans doute inspirée par lui, il quitte très jeune sa maison en compagnie d'un « mecholea'h », collecteur d'aumônes pour les pauvres de Palestine du nom de Yekoutiel, dans l'intention de l'accompagner en Terre sainte ; en chemin, il est capturé par des brigands tatars et vendu comme esclave en Turquie. Racheté et libéré à Smyrne par un juif fortuné de Podolie, il se rend en Pologne, où il passe plusieurs années à Pintzov, dans le gouvernement de Kielce, et y découvre, au contact des juifs et des sociniens, le latin et le savoir profane.
