Talmudiste et rabbin de plusieurs grandes communautés, né à Posen vers 1550, mort le 12 novembre 1631 à Prague. Son père était rabbin, ou du moins une autorité talmudique éminente à Posen ; son beau-père, Salomon ben Yehiel Louria, lui laissa à sa mort le rabbinat de Lublin (1578-84), qu'il occupe après avoir officié comme rabbin des communautés de Turbin et de Lubomil, en Pologne. À Lublin, il entretient une querelle amère avec le célèbre talmudiste Meïr ben Guedalia (le Maharam), qui, sans fonction officielle mais à la tête d'une des plus grandes yechivot, disposait par son autorité du pouvoir de rendre la vie difficile au rabbin de la communauté.
