Médecin allemand, né à Stallupönen, en Prusse-Orientale, le 24 février 1865. Formé au gymnase puis à l'université de Königsberg, où il étudie la médecine et obtient son diplôme en 1890, il devient la même année assistant à l'institut de pathologie de son alma mater, puis, en 1893, chargé de cours à la faculté de médecine. Il est l'auteur de plusieurs essais sur des sujets cliniques et anatomo-pathologiques, notamment sur l'anémie de Bothriocephalus et l'importance pronostique des mégaloblastes dans le sang anémique.
