Talmudiste et rabbin russe du XIXe siècle, mort le 10 février 1867 à Lublin, où il exerce le rabbinat depuis 1852, succédant à son père puis à son cousin Baerush Ashkenazi. Infatigable pour le bien-être spirituel et matériel de sa communauté, sa maison ouverte aux nécessiteux, il est aussi très estimé de ses concitoyens chrétiens et honoré par le gouvernement du titre de citoyen honoraire. Il laisse dix ouvrages posthumes, haggadiques et halakhiques, détruits depuis dans un incendie à Grodno ; plusieurs de ses responsa figurent dans le « Noda ba-She'arim » de Baerush Ashkenazi.
