Talmudiste et rabbin, né en Allemagne vers 1550, mort à Francfort-sur-le-Main en 1628. Après avoir achevé sa formation talmudique, il exerce d'abord à Bonn puis se rend à Metz vers 1595, où l'interdiction de résidence juive, en vigueur depuis deux cents ans, venait d'être levée et une communauté de cent vingt personnes récemment formée ; son dévouement contribue à sa croissance, qui triple d'ici 1618, année où il fait construire une synagogue et fonde une confrérie funéraire doublée d'un cercle d'étude. Il est surtout connu pour sa controverse avec Meïr ben Guedalia de Lublin au sujet d'une stricte décision sur l'examen des oies abattues.
