Éditeur, bibliographe et rédacteur, né à Kammin, en Prusse, le 23 août 1800, mort à Venise le 1er septembre 1853. Destiné au commerce, il devient marchand de bijoux à Saint-Pétersbourg, où l'achat fortuit d'une vieille bibliothèque décide de sa vocation ; il se consacre à la bibliographie et à l'édition, s'installant en 1830 à Berlin comme libraire, où il obtient l'agence d'achat de livres étrangers pour le British Museum. Il édite notamment les « Massa'ot » de Benjamin de Tudèle (Londres, 1840) ainsi que, à ses frais, le « Ḳoré ha-Dorot » de Conforté (Berlin, 1846).
