Auteur et traducteur allemand, né à Berlin le 8 février 1767, mort dans la même ville le 8 décembre 1822. Il débute sa carrière littéraire comme défenseur de l'émancipation juive, avant d'élargir son champ à l'histoire, la politique et la religion en général. Parmi ses ouvrages figurent le « Leviathan, oder über Religion in Rücksicht des Judenthums » (Berlin, 1792), l'« Eisenmenger der Zweite », adressé au professeur Fichte d'Iéna (Berlin, 1794), ainsi que « Die Germanomanie » (1815) et « Die Wartburgfeier » (1818), critiques du nationalisme allemand exalté.
