Instituteur et écrivain allemand, né le 4 décembre 1862 à Halver, en Westphalie prussienne. Formé au gymnase de Soest puis aux universités de Berlin et de Bonn, et à l'Académie de Münster, où il obtient son doctorat en philosophie, il enseigne en Angleterre et en Allemagne avant d'occuper, en 1902, le poste de « Oberlehrer » au progymnase de Myslowitz, en Silésie. Collaborateur de plusieurs revues allemandes, il publie notamment « Benjamin Disraeli's Leben und Dichterische Werke » (1895) et « Die Entwicklung der Höheren Knabenschulen in England » (1897), et traduit en 1900 l'« Age of Queen Elizabeth » de l'évêque Mandell Creighton.
