Médecin allemand, né à Metz le 2 mai 1793, mort à Strasbourg le 8 septembre 1861. Il se rend à Strasbourg en 1809 pour s'inscrire à la Faculté de médecine, obtient son doctorat en 1816, devient chirurgien adjoint à l'hôpital municipal en 1823, puis se perfectionne à Londres auprès de médecins réputés comme Astley Cooper. De retour en France, il s'établit à Strasbourg, où il exerce vingt-cinq ans durant, organisant en 1832 l'un des hôpitaux provisoires pendant l'épidémie de choléra ; il devient en 1849 président de la Société de médecine de Strasbourg et reçoit la Légion d'honneur en 1839.
