Fils d'Hérode le Grand et de Mariamne l'Hasmonéenne, né vers 35 av. J.-C., mort en 7 av. J.-C. Envoyé à Rome en 23 av. J.-C. avec son frère aîné Alexandre, ils reviennent à Jérusalem en 18 av. J.-C. et deviennent la cible de la faction anti-hasmonéenne de la cour ; Hérode marie Aristobule à Bérénice, fille de Salomé, pour apaiser les tensions, en vain. Antipater, demi-frère répudié, calomnie les deux princes auprès d'Auguste, qu'Hérode rencontre à Aquilée en 12 av. J.-C. pour les accuser de parricide ; réconciliés un temps, ils sont finalement condamnés à mort par un conseil réuni à Béryte et étranglés à Sébaste en 7 av. J.-C.
