Prêtre et orientaliste espagnol, né en 1527 à Fregenal, en Estrémadure, mort en 1598 à Séville. Philippe II lui confie l'édition de la Bible polyglotte imprimée à Anvers (1568-1572). Accusé de judaïser pour avoir inséré dans cette édition certaines paraphrases araméennes jugées favorables aux thèses juives, il est acquitté grâce au rapport favorable de l'inquisiteur P. Mariana (1580). Il traduit en latin le « Massa'ot » de Benjamin de Tudèle (1575) et publie notamment ses « Antiquitatum Judaicarum » (Leyde, 1593).
