Chanteur d'opéra (ténor), né à Mitau, en Russie, le 23 mars 1865. Formé au gymnase de Riga puis au Conservatoire impérial de Moscou sous la direction de Tchaïkovski, il est diplômé en 1890. Il chante à l'Opéra impérial de Moscou, à Berlin, Milan, Naples, Turin, et au Theatre Royal de Covent Garden, à Londres, en 1894, où il donne depuis de nombreux concerts. Il est aussi l'auteur d'une pantomime pour enfants, « The Quartet », et d'un lied pour ténor, « Die Erinnerung ».
