Médecin allemand, né à Jastrow, en Prusse-Occidentale, le 21 août 1847. Formé au gymnase de Deutsch-Krone puis à l'université de Berlin, où il obtient son doctorat de médecine en 1870, il sert comme chirurgien adjoint pendant la guerre franco-prussienne (1870-71) avant de s'installer comme praticien à Berlin ; il reçoit en 1896 le titre de « Sanitätsrat ». Apolant publie de nombreux articles dans l'« Archiv für Pathologische Anatomie » de Virchow et dans la « Berliner Klinische Wochenschrift ».
