Directeur de la London Jews' Free School, né le 29 avril 1819, mort à Londres en 1898. Nommé maître du Talmud Torah en 1840, puis responsable de l'ensemble de l'école, il en fait l'un des établissements élémentaires les mieux tenus du Royaume-Uni ; placée sous inspection gouvernementale en 1853, l'école suscite chaque année les éloges des inspecteurs. La même année, il organise la formation des enseignants, si bien que pendant plus d'une génération presque tout maître juif du pays lui doit sa formation. Il occupe le poste jusqu'en 1897 et publie notamment « The Law of Sinai and Its Appointed Times » (1858).
