Auteur talmudique et principal des collèges talmudiques de Salonique et de Smyrne, dans la première moitié du XVIIe siècle, élève d'Asher ha-Cohen ben Ardout et l'un des maîtres les plus en vue de Turquie ; son élève le plus connu est David Conforte, auteur du « Ḳoré ha-Dorot ». Il écrit des novellæ sur le code civil « Ḥoshen Mishpaṭ » de Joseph Caro, publiées avec le « Doresh Mishpaṭ » de Salomon Florentin (Salonique, 1655), d'autres novellæ sur plusieurs traités talmudiques (Salonique, 1717), ainsi que des responsa correspondant avec les plus grands savants de son temps (Salonique, 1717).
