Poète liturgique renommé, actif à Oria, en Italie, au début du Xe siècle. Seule source fiable sur sa vie, la « Chronique d'Ahimaaz » le donne pour fils de Shephatia, mort vers la fin du IXe siècle, et petit-fils de l'Amittaï qui ouvre la chronique. Poète très prolifique — Zunz lui attribue vingt-quatre pièces liturgiques —, il puise dans le Midrash et la Mekhilta et évoque parfois des événements historiques, comme la conversion forcée d'enfants juifs. L'une de ses seliḥot fait encore partie de l'office de Ne'ila du jour du Grand Pardon.
