Born in Trieste on December 26, 1872, died in Turin on July 12, 1949, son of Davide Adolfo Herlitzka and Marietta Lustig. Professor of Physiology at the University of Turin (from 1913), director of the physiology laboratory, member of the Accademia dei Lincei and the Accademia delle Scienze di Torino. Pioneer of experimental embryology and applied physiology (aviation, altitude). Israelite, he was driven from his chair by the racial laws of 1938 (decree 1390) and went into exile in Argentina, working at the Argentine Aviation Research Center until 1945.
