Rabbin de Safed, en Palestine, dans la seconde moitié du XVIe siècle, fils de Ḥayyim Alshech. Disciple de R. Joseph Caro, auteur du « Choulḥan Aroukh », il compte parmi ses propres élèves le cabaliste R. Ḥayyim Vidal. Bien qu'appartenant au cercle des cabalistes de Safed, son œuvre porte peu de traces de Kabbale ; il se distingue surtout comme enseignant, prédicateur et casuiste, et ses commentaires homilétiques sur l'Écriture, tirés de ses prêches du sabbat, cherchent dans chaque verset une leçon morale et un encouragement à la patience et à la confiance en Dieu.
