Un mathématicien de date incertaine, auteur d'un traité sur la quadrature du cercle, conservé dans un manuscrit de la British Museum (additional manuscripts, 26,984). Alfonso affirme dans ses remarques préliminaires avoir trouvé et démontré la possibilité de construire une figure plane égale—non pas simplement de manière approximative, mais exactement—à la surface d'un cercle donné. Il prétend avoir mis fin à tous les doutes sur ce sujet, tels que les entretenait Aristote, et contredit les opinions d'Ibn Roshd et d'Ibn Sina, qui avaient déclaré la démonstration impossible.
