Auteur et dramaturge anglais ; né à Londres vers 1870 ; éducation à la City of London School et à Bruxelles. Il commença sa carrière par une série de traductions des œuvres de Maeterlinck, dont il a traduit du français tous les ouvrages à l'exception des drames. Se tournant ensuite vers le drame, il collabora d'abord avec Arthur Bourchier pour produire « The Chili Widow » (1896), puis écrivit en succession rapide « The Cave of Illusion » (1900), « Arethusa » (1903), « A Marriage Has Been Arranged » (1904), et finalement remporta un grand succès avec « The Walls of Jericho », représenté au Garrick Theatre, Londres, 21 octobre 1904.
