Né dans une famille juive à Sommerfeld, il étudie la médecine à Berlin (1881) et devient professeur à l'université de Berlin, médecin-chef du Krankenhaus Moabit puis du Virchow-Krankenhaus. Pionnier de l'étude du système somatosensoriel (thermorécepteurs, sensibilité cutanée) ; le « test de Goldscheider » porte son nom.
