Born in a Jewish family in Sommerfeld, he studied medicine in Berlin (1881) and became professor at the University of Berlin, chief physician at Krankenhaus Moabit and then at Virchow-Krankenhaus. Pioneer in the study of the somatosensory system (thermoreceptors, cutaneous sensitivity); the « Goldscheider test » bears his name.
