Né à Casablanca, arrivé enfant en Israël, il grandit dans les grands ensembles pour immigrés de Jérusalem. Écrivain et critique d'art, il publie en 1990 le roman hébreu Aqud (« Ligoté »), acclamé pour sa langue riche et pour sa description crue de l'enfance des Juifs nord-africains (mizrahim) dans l'Israël des années 1970.
