Writer and translator born in Algiers on 8 April 1935, agrégé in Spanish, doctoral degree in literature, professor of Spanish literature at Rennes-II (1978–1995). Major translator of Hispanic authors (including most of Mario Vargas Llosa's work), founding member of ATLF, silver medallist of the French Academy (2012). His literary works depict the Algerian Judeo-Arab world.
