Traducteur majeur d'auteurs hispanophones (dont l'essentiel de l'œuvre de Mario Vargas Llosa), membre fondateur de l'ATLF, médaille d'argent de l'Académie française (2012). Son œuvre romanesque met en scène le monde judéo-arabe algérien.
