Born in Raudnitz (Bohemia) in 1812, student at the yeshivot of Prague and Pozsony and one of the favorite disciples of Hatam Sofer. Rabbi in Sebes (1846) then in Balassagyarmat (1851) until his death. Intransigent figure of orthodoxy at the Hungarian Jewish Congress of 1868, he worked for the legal autonomy of Orthodox communities in Hungary.
