Né Erik Brick à Kaunas (Lituanie) en 1936, rescapé de la Shoah, émigré en Palestine mandataire en 1947. Doyen de la faculté de droit de l'Université hébraïque (1974-1975), procureur général d'Israël (1975-1978), juge (1978-1995) puis président (1995-2006) de la Cour suprême d'Israël. Théoricien du droit très cité, il enseigne notamment à Yale et à l'Université Reichman.
