Born Erik Brick in Kaunas (Lithuania) in 1936, Shoah survivor, emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1947. Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Hebrew University (1974–1975), Attorney General of Israel (1975–1978), judge (1978–1995) then president (1995–2006) of the Israeli Supreme Court. Highly cited legal theorist, he taught notably at Yale and Reichman University.
