Polish Jewish logician and mathematician of the Warsaw school, known for the Lindenbaum lemma and Lindenbaum–Tarski algebras. Doctor in 1928 (under W. Sierpiński), habilitated in 1934 at the University of Warsaw, he was Alfred Tarski's closest collaborator between the wars. He published on mathematical logic, set theory and cardinal arithmetic. He was murdered by the Nazis at Ponary, near Vilnius.
