Born in Amsterdam in 1892, Dutch Jewish engineer and writer, he played an early role in the Indische Sociaal-Democratische Vereeniging and the founding of the Indonesian Communist Party. Returning to the Netherlands, he published from 1928 onward works on economics, including the influential Sowjet-Rusland in de practijk (1928). Deported, he was murdered at Auschwitz on March 6, 1944.
