Physicien et mathématicien autrichien né le 7 mars 1860 et mort le 15 décembre 1893 à Stecken, en Bohême, il fit ses études au gymnase d'Iglau, dont il sortit diplômé en 1877, puis à l'université de Vienne, où il obtint son doctorat en 1882. Nommé « privatdocent » en 1885, il fut promu professeur extraordinaire peu avant sa mort ; ses travaux, portant presque exclusivement sur l'électricité et le magnétisme, parurent pour l'essentiel dans les « Sitzungsberichte der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften » de Vienne entre 1884 et 1893.
