Banquier et homme politique danois né le 16 mai 1826 à Copenhague et mort dans cette ville le 4 décembre 1878, il devint associé d'une maison de commission à Londres en 1846, avant de revenir à Copenhague en 1850 pour s'associer à la banque D. B. Adler & Company, qu'il orienta vers le transfert du centre financier du Jutland de Hambourg à Copenhague. Libre-échangiste convaincu et cofondateur de la Société du libre-échange, il créa en 1864 un fonds pour les veuves et filles de marchands ruinés, siégea au Folkething de 1864 à 1869 puis au Landsthing à partir de 1869, et fut conseiller municipal de Copenhague de 1858 à 1864 puis en 1869-72.
