Architecte et ingénieur germano-américain né à Stadt-Lengsfeld le 3 juillet 1844 et mort à Chicago le 15 avril 1900, fils du rabbin Liebman Adler, émigré en Amérique avec sa famille en 1854, il s'établit à Chicago en 1861 et s'engagea dans l'artillerie au début de la guerre de Sécession. Président de la Western Association of Architects et de l'Illinois State Board of Examiners of Architects, il conçut de nombreux bâtiments à Chicago — dont les synagogues Sinaï, Sion, Anshé Ma'arabh et Isaiah, l'Auditorium et la Bourse — ainsi qu'à Saint-Louis et à La Nouvelle-Orléans ; il fut secrétaire des United Hebrew Charities de Chicago de 1873 à 1877.
